Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. reported record-high net sales, operating profit, ordinary income and net profit for FY2025 (fiscal year ended March 2026). Net sales rose 9% year-on-year to ¥5,110.2 billion and operating profit rose 30% to ¥418.2 billion, a record operating profit margin of 8.2%, driven by expanded sales of optical connector products and optical devices for data centers, product mix and productivity improvement, and rising copper prices. Profit attributable to owners of the parent surged 91% to ¥369.5 billion, boosted by an extraordinary gain from the sale of Sumitomo Densetsu. For FY2026, the company forecasts continued record net sales, operating profit and ordinary income, while reported net profit is expected to decline as FY2025 included the one-off Densetsu sale gain.

FY2026 Forecast

Sumitomo Electric forecasts net sales of ¥5,300.0 billion (+4% year-on-year), operating profit of ¥425.0 billion (+2%) and ordinary income of ¥432.0 billion (+0%), each expected to reach a record high. Profit attributable to owners of the parent is forecast at ¥320.0 billion, down 13% year-on-year, because FY2025 included the extraordinary gain on the sale of Sumitomo Densetsu; excluding that gain, FY2025 profit was ¥299.3 billion. Before-tax ROIC is forecast at 11.9% (FY2025 actual 14.7%, or 12.5% excluding the Densetsu gain) and ROE at 11.4% (FY2025 actual 14.7%, or 11.9% excluding the Densetsu gain). Sumitomo Densetsu will be excluded from consolidation from FY2026, an effect the company expects to be offset by improvements in the Infocommunications segment. In FY2026, the Infocommunications, Automotive and Industrial Materials segments are expected to achieve record-high operating profits. The FY2026 guidance does not factor in downside risks from the escalating situation in the Middle East, given the difficulty of reasonably estimating the full-year impact at this time; if such risks materialize, the company will seek to minimize the impact through recovery production, cost pass-through and cost reduction.
