Note: Unitika does not publish an English results presentation; this article is an English translation of the Japanese-language article on our sister site Investalk, which is based on the company’s Japanese-language IR materials, with figures transcribed as reported. This site classifies the most recently completed fiscal year as FY2025; the company labels the same period the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, and the source labels are retained in the body text and tables. The source materials state amounts in units of ¥100 million; these are rendered here in billions of yen (for example, the reported ¥1,186 hundred million is shown as ¥118.6 billion).
For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, Unitika posted net sales of ¥118.6 billion (down ¥7.8 billion year on year) as business divestitures weighed on the top line, while operating profit rose sharply to ¥10.5 billion (up ¥4.7 billion year on year) on the back of expanded sales of high-value-added, high-performance products, price revisions and cost-reduction measures. Ordinary profit was ¥10.4 billion (up ¥5.7 billion year on year), and profit attributable to owners of parent turned strongly positive at ¥18.2 billion (previous fiscal year: -¥24.3 billion) as gains on sale of fixed assets and gains on forgiveness of debt exceeded business-restructuring expenses. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, the company expects net sales of ¥84.0 billion, operating profit of ¥8.0 billion and net income of ¥5.0 billion, each down year on year, reflecting withdrawal from low-profitability businesses under its structural reforms.

Consolidated Results (Full-Year Actual)
Net sales came to ¥118.6 billion (down ¥7.8 billion year on year). While the decline reflected the impact of business withdrawals, sales volumes in continuing businesses increased, led by the electronic materials field, and weaker demand in the food-packaging field and inflows of overseas products were offset by higher sales of high-value-added products. Operating profit was ¥10.5 billion (up ¥4.7 billion year on year), and the operating margin improved to 8.9% (up 4.3 points year on year), supported by growth in sales of high-value-added, high-performance products together with the review of unprofitable sales, price revisions and cost-reduction measures. Ordinary profit was ¥10.4 billion (up ¥5.7 billion year on year), including foreign-exchange gains of ¥1.4 billion, such as valuation gains on foreign-currency-denominated assets accompanying the progress of yen depreciation (the exchange rate moved from US$1 = ¥150 at the end of March 2025 to US$1 = ¥160 at the end of March 2026). Profit attributable to owners of parent was ¥18.2 billion (previous fiscal year: -¥24.3 billion), a strong turnaround to profit, as the company recorded gains on sale of fixed assets of ¥23.7 billion and gains on forgiveness of debt from financial institutions of ¥12.0 billion as extraordinary income while recording business-structure improvement expenses of ¥14.9 billion as extraordinary losses.

Segment Results
The polymers business recorded increases in both sales and profit, with net sales of ¥56.4 billion (up ¥1.0 billion year on year) and operating profit of ¥9.4 billion (up ¥3.4 billion year on year). The film business performed steadily, led by electronic-materials applications in the industrial field, and the resins business saw growth in sales of engineering plastics for automotive and electrical/electronic-component applications. Net sales of the functional materials business were ¥33.7 billion (down ¥3.3 billion year on year), but its continuing businesses (activated carbon fiber, glass fiber and glass beads) posted increases in both sales and profit, with net sales of ¥16.6 billion (up ¥2.4 billion year on year) and operating profit of ¥2.5 billion (up ¥1.0 billion year on year), as sales of products such as ultra-thin glass cloth for the electronic-materials field grew substantially. In the textiles business, net sales came to ¥28.4 billion (down ¥5.5 billion year on year) owing to the impact of business divestitures, and because losses related to certain business transfers were recorded in cost of sales, operating profit was -¥0.5 billion (down ¥0.2 billion year on year), widening the operating loss. In the industrial materials business, sales of civil-engineering materials and daily-life-related products were firm.

Full-Year Forecast
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, the company forecasts net sales of ¥84.0 billion (down ¥34.6 billion year on year), operating profit of ¥8.0 billion (down ¥2.5 billion), ordinary profit of ¥6.5 billion (down ¥3.9 billion) and profit attributable to owners of parent of ¥5.0 billion (down ¥13.2 billion). Net sales are expected to decline as the company withdraws from low-profitability businesses under its structural reforms. Against rising raw-material and fuel prices accompanying heightened tensions in the Middle East, the company plans to hold the impact on operating profit to a minimum through rationalization measures such as cost reductions and productivity improvements, in addition to expanded sales of high-value-added, high-performance products, the review of unprofitable sales and price revisions. The forecast assumes an exchange rate of US$1 = ¥159 and a crude-oil price of US$100 per barrel.

Business Revitalization Plan and Financial Improvement
Under the business revitalization plan, withdrawal from the unprofitable businesses targeted for exit—including the textiles business, the nonwovens business and the industrial fibers business (excluding the monofilament business)—was largely completed as planned. Going forward, the company intends to focus on further expanding sales of high-value-added products centered on polymers and glass fiber, and on studying and advancing the strengthening of production. On the financial side, the company carried out debt forgiveness of approximately ¥12.0 billion by its financial institutions, compressing interest-bearing debt to ¥54.7 billion. In addition to a ¥20.0 billion third-party allotment of shares by the Regional Economy Vitalization Corporation of Japan, the recording of profit for the year lifted net assets from ¥16.2 billion in the previous fiscal year to ¥54.0 billion, and the equity ratio rose sharply from 10.4% in the previous fiscal year to 35.7%. Cash and deposits increased to ¥47.7 billion, and net interest-bearing debt fell substantially to ¥7.0 billion.
